Strained Supremacy
To the north sprawls an empire of Humans and Orang (and a smattering of others) called the Union, though few of the people and little of the land was "unified" willingly. It seems that since the 6th Era began the Union has been threatening, bullying, and eating its neighbors one after another.
That said, the last 200 years have been a struggle for the polity. After the Freodun war of independence, parts have been trying to break away, most recently with the Snapjaw Insurgency (also called the "Eastern Affair" inside the Union). Can this polity right it's internal wrongs that seem to be leading decline? Or can those who seek to break it apart provide protection from the hordes of undead and Wendigo beyond the Great Taming Wall to the South-East? DEMOGRAPHICS

POLITICAL ECONOMY
-The Union claims to operate as a centralized constitutional monarchy, but in practice it has been decentralizing for several decades as the Military to the east and Regional Clans refrain from sharing taxes and resources with the Capital. That said, the Xinesi Clan remains popular with the masses of the Union as a provider for all in times of need and for the elderly, and as a check against self-interested Nobles and blood-thirsty military leaders. The Union's integrity is also due to the variety of resources, goods, and cultural products that are only made possible through the unity of so many different regions and people groups. As a result, there are many people who consider themselves of their region itself, and many others (especially in the larger cities) that consider themselves Unionist itself. Amongst the Unionist and Regionalists alike, though, there are some overlapping similarities. In the Southwest, the Wajega Caddi and Canahas of Mayish hold significant sway in religious, educational, and medical domains - though they walk a fine line between community reverence and being disappeared by Greatmother Guards. And on the other-hand there are the Red Horn Hawks of Mt. Oldguard. These monks shirk the Caddi and Canahas titles and instead wander the Union (and beyond) enacting what they believe to be the righteous justice of Red Horn. While most can and do step in as legal judges for communities, some are known to take their spit-fire preaching to a place of violent vigilante justice. |
